Realising the MDGs by 2015: Anti-corruption in Ghana

issuu.com/transparencyinternational/docs/2011_mdgghan...
This set of three studies (Bangladesh, Peru and Ghana) explore countries’ experiences with advancing towards meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The MDGs are a set of goals aimed at making significant progress by 2015 on key development areas, including poverty, education and health. This study provides a window into how anti-corruption activities can positively support sustained advances in achieving the MDGs in Ghana. It demonstrates how civil society actors are working towards combating corruption in service delivery – a practice that severely compromises a country’s ability to provide basic services and meet the MDGs.

Integrating Energy Access and Employment Creation to Accelerate Progress on the MDGs in SSA

issuu.com/undp/docs/aft_english_web...
This report demonstrates through case studies from Burkina Faso, Kenya, Malawi, Mali, South Africa and South Sudan that complementary policies and programmes can greatly improve the beneficial impact of energy access on unemployment, economic growth, and progress towards the MDGs. The report identifies barriers and drivers of scaling up energy access, particularly via decentralized and renewable energy options; and it provides guidance on how to maximize the contribution of energy services to employment generation, and through that, to the MDGs.

Political economy, water and the MDGs

issuu.com/christinadianparmionova/docs/political_econ...
Water and its management contribute directly and indirectly to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). There is an acute need to increase and improve water services to meet MDG 1 (eradicate extreme poverty and hunger) and MDG 7 (ensure environmental sustainability). But without much greater attention to the management of water resources – the water as it occurs naturally in lakes, rivers and underground – it will be very difficult to maintain these services and achieve the broader MDGs.

OHCHR: Water, Sanitation and the MDGs

issuu.com/christinadianparmionova/docs/ohchr_-_water_...
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been valuable in galvanizing international support around a certain number of poverty reduction targets, including with respect to water and sanitation. They have generated broad and high level political commitment to water and sanitation, by putting them on the international agenda. Integrating the rights to water and sanitation within MDG monitoring and policy-making can help to make progress towards the MDGs more inclusive and sustainable, while promoting equity, accountability and policy coherence.
