Digital Signal Processing for High-Speed Optical Communication (Communications)

https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Processing-High-Speed-Communi...
There is an increasing tendency to integrate optical communication with wireless communication to satisfy continuously emerging (new) data communication demands. Thus, optical-wireless-integrated access networks and transmission systems, as well as LED-based visible light communication are attracting ever increasing research interest. Digital signal processing (DSP) is one new technology for optical transmission. As such this book is designed to pave the way to the better understanding of the deployment of DSP in optical fiber communication systems.Digital Signal Processing for High-Speed Optical Communication covers a wide area of DSP topics in optical communications, and describes state-of-the-art digital signal processing techniques for high-speed optical communication. In this book, numerous advanced digital signal processing techniques aiming at the promotion of the capacity increase and performance improvement of optical or optical-wireless communication systems and networks are presented and explained. Coverage includes new technologies, optical filter with MLSE, and new pre-coding and pre-equalization applicable to single-carrier and multi-carrier, direct-detection and coherent-detection optical commutation systems and networks.Contents:

Marketization and Democracy in China (Routledge Studies on China in Transition Book 31)

https://www.amazon.com/Marketization-Democracy-Routledge-Stu...
Since China began an era of market reform three decades ago, many Westerners believed that, political liberalization and, eventually, democracy would follow. However, contrary to Western expectations, China remains an authoritarian country and the communist party is still in power, even though the country has witnessed rapid economic growth and its people have become richer. In Marketization and Democracy in China, Jianjun Zhang questions whether China’s market reforms have created favorable social conditions for democracy, whether the country’s emerging entrepreneurial class will serve as the democratic social base, and the role of government in the process of transition. Based upon a careful analysis of two regions—Sunan and Wenzhou —the two prototypical local development patterns in China, Zhang finds that different patterns of economic development have produced distinct local-level social and political configurations, only one of which is likely to foster the growth of democratic practices. The results suggest that China’s political future is largely dependent upon the emerging class structure and offer a warning on China’s development: if market reforms and economic development only enrich a few, then democratic transition will be unlikely. Marketization and Democracy in China will be of interest to scholars of Chinese politics, political science and development studies.

Understanding Chinese Firms from Multiple Perspectives

https://www.amazon.com/Understanding-Chinese-Firms-Multiple-...
Previous analysis on the “Chinese Economic Miracle” mostly talks about macro-economy but neglects the study on the basic element of the Chinese Miracle – the enterprises. With China’s economic rise, Chinese enterprises experienced a rapid process of adaptation, change and development, and also become strong competitors in the world market. This book sets forth the explorations and thoughts on Chinese enterprise management practices from both academic and practical perspective, extracts the management theory of Chinese characteristics, and represents the efforts to establish and develop Chinese organization and management.

Urbanization and Party Survival in China: People vs. Power

https://www.amazon.com/Urbanization-Party-Survival-China-Peo...
While the Chinese urban movement has successfully transferred surplus labor from the countryside to urban industries that urgently require free and cheap labor, numerous problems have arisen as a result of the unprecedented huge-scale process. Such conditions such as overcrowding, substandard housing, lack of social services, corruption, and abuse of power have often reached crisis stage. American college students often ask: How does the government control the largest urban population in the world? Why do newly developed, highly commercialized cities continue to support the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) rather than challenging the old regime? What happens when urban residents have problems with a party-controlled government? This book, collects essays from the best scholars in their fields and examines urban issues, including identifying residents’ concerns, analyzing policy problems, and providing some answers to these pivotal questions. They address this important topic from a Chinese-American perspective through a cooperative interdisciplinary research effort among Chinese-American scholars interested in the subject. Their scholarship makes a significant contribution through multi-faceted components from different fields such as economics, political science, criminal justice, law, anthropology, sociology, and education. The authors introduce and explore the theory and practice of policy patterns, political systems, and social institutions by identifying key issues in Chinese government and society contained within the larger framework of the international sphere.Originally from Beijing, Shanghai, Xi’an, Tianjin, and other cities in China, these authors have received training and advanced degrees from American universities and colleges, thus bringing uncommon perspective and conclusions by focusing on urban studies specific to China. Their endeavors move beyond the existing scholarship and seek to spark new debates and proposed solutions while reflecting on established schools of history, religion, linguistics, and gender studies. Crucial to this volume is the assessment of historical and empirical data found in these essays that place major events in the context of Chinese tradition, its culture, and national security. Using comprehensive coverage to create a broad and solid foundation of knowledge, this collection presents a better understanding of the current Chinese metropolitan climate and includes legitimate issues with city policy implementation.
