Modelling Data Dispersion Degree in Automatic Robust Estimation for Mixture Models The trimming scheme with a prefixed cutoff portion is known as a method of improving the robustness of statistical models such as multivariate Gaussian mixture models (MG-MMs) in small scale tests by alleviating the impacts of outliers. However, when this method is applied to real-world data, such as noisy speech processing, it is hard to know the optimal cut-off portion to remove the outliers and sometimes removes useful data samples as well.

The Crime rate and criminal activities have increased enormously in the past few decades. Crime preventions and criminal identification are the primary issues before the police personnel, since property and lives protection are the basic concerns of the police but to combat the crime, the availability of police personnel is limited and on the other hand, the number of criminals are increasing drastically. Hence to support the law keepers, data about the criminals, criminal history together with criminal attitudes will be very much benefitted. This paper aims towards the construction of new methodologies based on Data mining concepts and serves as a decision support system.

Finite Mixture Models in Market Segmentation: A Review and Suggestions for Best Practices
Recently, Andrews, Brusco and Currim (2010) noted that some of the hesitancy on the part of practitioners to adopt model-based (MB) methods in market segmentation (MS) may stem from an insufficient awareness of their performance relative to their non-model-based (NMB) counterparts. Comparisons of MB and NMB methods should provide business researchers with information as to precise conditions in which the former should be preferred. Moreover, finite mixture models (FMMs) have grown in their use since 2000 and, as there is no recent survey-based empirical literature examining their application, a comprehensive review of their usage in segmentation research seems to be of use. This article discusses some of the critical issues involved when using FMMs to segment markets, takes a closer look at comparison simulation studies in order to highlight conditions under which a business analyst might consider the application of an FMM approach, discusses model selection as well as validation...

Segmentation and Dimension Reduction: Exploratory and Model-Based Approaches
In this thesis, we incorporate the modeling principles of segmentation and dimension reduction into statistical models. We thus develop new models that can summarize and explain the information in a data set in a simple way. The focus is on dimension reduction using bilinear parameter structures and techniques for clustering both modes of a two-mode data matrix. To illustrate the usefulness of the techniques, the thesis includes a variety of empirical applications in marketing, psychometrics, and political science. An important application is modeling the response behavior in surveys with rating scales, which provides novel insight into what kinds of response styles exist, and how substantive opinions vary among respondents. We find that our modeling approaches yield new techniques for data analysis that can be useful in a variety of applied fields.

The Quantitative Revolution and the Crisis
The popular press and a recent spate of remarkable books have pointed critically to the contribution of financial innovation and quantitative models to the financial crisis. These critiques have cited particular statistical approaches, such as the Gaussian copula, for massively underestimating systemic risk. The broader critiques doubt the risk management capabilities of firms and regulators to understand and evaluate complex financial instruments, such as synthetic securities. These critiques cut at the core of the Basel II international regulations which permitted banks to create their own models to value illiquid and risky assets. They also have major implications for the design of a regulatory system and regulations regarding whether regulation is at all possible, who is best able to do it, and ultimately if complex financial innovation should be sharply curtailed.

Journal of Computer Science December 2011
The International Journal of Computer Science and Information Security (IJCSIS) is a well-established publication venue on novel research in computer science and information security. The year 2010 has been very eventful and encouraging for all IJCSIS authors/researchers and IJCSIS technical committee, as we see more and more interest in IJCSIS research publications. IJCSIS is now empowered by over thousands of academics, researchers, authors/reviewers/students and research organizations. Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without the support, feedback, and continuous engagement of our authors and reviewers.
