The e-book also attempts to find out what is available to an observer from his/her standpoint (reference system), and from what theoretical standpoints that observation is developed. This book is intended as a resource for senior students and researchers in natural sciences, scientific philosophy and contemporary psychology.

Electronic Computers

www.ebooks.com/cj.asp?IID=2427656&cjsku=2427656...
The Igth century was distinguished by the construction of machines with enormous power. During the last decade rapid progress has been made in the development of a completely different type of machine. These new machines, the electronic computers, are not built to generate power or to do mechanical work, but to perform logical operations and ca1culations. This new concept will have a profound influence on engineering, science, ami economy. In fact, the first effects of this development are already taking shape today. It is the purpose 01 this book to give a survey of the basic principles and applications of computers for the benefit of those who hitherto did not work with them, but who might have use for them in the future. The rapid progress of the engineering science has, naturally, led to a situation in which the practicing scientist and engineer cannot keep abreast of the progress in neighboring fields. The chapters of this book were prepared by distinguished experts in the field of computers for the non-expert who does not intend to become an expert, but W}:l0 wants Jo acquire a general understanding of the problems and solutions which he needs to effectively perform the work in his proper field. We address this book to the engineers and scientists who want to know the performance of computers, as weH as to the managers who are rnainly concerned with their econornic aspect.

Digital Architecture Beyond Computers

https://www.ebooks.com/cj.asp?IID=2571467&fc=GB&cjsku=2571467...
Digital Architecture Beyond Computers explores the deep history of digital architecture, tracing design concepts as far back as the Renaissance and connecting them with the latest software used by designers today. It develops a critical account of how the tools and techniques of digital design have emerged, and allows designers to deepen their understanding of the digital tools they use every day. What aesthetic, spatial, and philosophical concepts converge within the digital tools architects employ? What is their history? And what kinds of techniques and designs have they given rise to? This book explores the answers to these questions, showing how digital architecture brings together complex ideas and trajectories which span across several domains and have evolved over many centuries. It sets out to unpack these ideas, trace their origin and permeation into architecture, and re-examine their use in contemporary software. Chapters are arranged around the histories of nine 'fragments' â each a fundamental concept embedded in popular CAD applications: database, layers and fields, parametrics, pixel, programme, randomness, scanning, topology, and voxel/maxel â with each theme examined through a series of historical and contemporary case studies. The book thus connects the digital design process with architectural history and theory, allowing designers and theorists alike to develop more analytical and critical tools with which to conceptualise digital design and its software.

Nursing and Computers

https://www.ebooks.com/cj.asp?IID=1289993&fc=GB&cjsku=1289993...
Intended for nurses who would like to know more about the development of the computerized information systems on which they have become so dependent, Nursing and Computers: An Anthology is a wide-range introduction to the literature of this field. The editors have selected historical and contemporary papers to show both the systems at their inception and examples of how they have evolved. Of interest to both the generalist and the specialist, these articles examine the partnership between nurses and computers in the areas of administration, practice, research, and education.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 8th International Conference on Computers and Games, CG 2013, held in Yokohama, Japan, in August 2013, in conjunction with the 17th Computer and Games Tournament and the 20th World Computer-Chess Championship. The 21 papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in this book. They cover a wide range of topics which are grouped into five classes: Monte Carlo Tree Search and its enhancements; solving and searching; analysis of game characteristic; new approaches; and serious games.

Computers in Chess

Much water has flowed over the dam since this book went to press in Moscow. One might expect that PIONEER would have made substantial advances-unfortunately it has not. There are reasons: the difficulty of the problem, the disenchantment of the mathematicians (because of the delays and drawing out of the work), and principally the insufficiency and some times complete lack of machine time. The general method used by PIONEER to solve complex multidimen sional search problems had already been formulated at that time. It was supposed that the successful completion of the chess program PIONEER-l would provide a sufficient validation for the method. We did not succeed in completing it. But, unexpectedly, PIONEER's method obtained a different kind of validation. Since our group of mathematicians works at the Institute for Electroen ergy, we were invited to solve some energy-related problems and were assigned the task of constructing a program that would plan the recondi tioning of the equipment in power stations-initially for one month. Until then, the technicians had been preparing such plans without the aid of computers. Although the chess program was not complete even after ten years, the program PIONEER-2 for computing the monthly repair schedule for the Interconnected Power System of Russian Central was completed in a few months. In mid-October of 1980 a medium-speed computer constructed the plan in 40 seconds. When, at the end of the month, the mathematician A.

Teaching Computers To Teach

https://www.ebooks.com/cj.asp?IID=209517611&fc=GB&cjsku=209517611...
Like the original version of Teaching Computers to Teach, this updated edition presents procedures and principles for designing computer-presented instruction. It was written as a result of recent developments in three domains that have significant implications for computer-assisted instruction (CAI) and computer-based training (CBT). These areas are audio and videodisc technology, CAI and CBT experience, and research in the processes of learning. This practical book is written specifically for people who want to learn to design CAI. The book presents a CAI-specific design procedure by integrating knowledge about unique aspects of human-machine interaction with theories of learning and instruction as well as practical experience with CAI. The reader is guided through the entire design process, from initial planning to final evaluation, by clearcut principles and concrete examples.
