ARCMDG - ASEAN Regional Center of Excellence for Millenium Development Goals
In 2008, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) was welcome by the United Nations as the site of the world’s first Regional Center of Excellence for Millenium Development Goals. The ARCMDG at AIT is dedicated to the promotion and achievement of the MDGs in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) through education and training. The ARCMDG at AIT focuses on four MDGs, namely Goals 1, 3, 7 and 8. The Center avails of the considerable intellectual strengths of AIT’s world-class faculty and its extensive international partners.

Framework of Action for Meeting the Millennium Development Goal on Water and Sanitation
UN-HABITAT in partnership with the Government of India organized the Asia-Pacific Ministers Conference on Housing and Human Settlements from 13th to 16th December, 2006 in New Delhi, India, in which Ministers of housing and urban development from the Asia-Pacific region, High officials, Experts, Executive Heads of the relevant United Nations Organizations, Specialized Agencies, International and Regional Financing Institutions, Eminent Personalities and the Civil society from 38 countries participated. The Conference was aimed at developing a shared vision and broad strategic framework for overcoming the existing barriers for the accelerated achievement of the Millennium Development Goals relating to human settlements and the Governments of the Asia-Pacific to promote an integrated approach to sustainable development and poverty reduction using shelter and the basic amenities as a basis for transformation.

In the context of global and national economic development, higher education in Cambodia plays a significant role to develop human capital with technical knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes for sustainable economic growth, social development, and alleviation of poverty. When the civil war in 1998 was over, the Royal Government of Cambodia considered higher education as a top priority on the list of priorities in order to be integrated into the Association of South East Asian Nations Community by 2015 through implementing numerous mechanisms and policies to promote quality education for the students. This paper will discuss the status of national and institutional policies to promote educational quality to ensure academic success for students in a Cambodian public university. The documents and data of existing government ministries, development partners and higher education institutions will be used in the analysis of policies.
