Explorations in Christian Theology and Ethics

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=OfkGDAAAQBAJ&...
Engaging variously with the legacy of Paul L. Lehmann, these essays argue for a reorientation in Christian theology that better honours the formative power of the gospel to animate and shape doctrine and witness, as well as ethical and political life. The authors explore key themes in Christian theology and ethics - forgiveness, discernment, responsibility, spirituality, the present day tasks of theology and the role of faith in public life - making plain the unabated importance of Lehmann's work at this juncture in contemporary theology. The internationally recognized contributors draw crucial connections between the gospel of reconciliation, the form of Christian theology and witness, and the challenges of contemporary ethical and political reflection. This book demonstrates why this close friend of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and author of Ethics in a Christian Context and The Transfiguration of Politics continues to influence generations of theologians in both the English-speaking world and beyond.

Christ, Power and Mammon

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=pXNvAAAAQBAJ&...
Thisbook examines the role of the New Testament concept of the 'principalities andpowers' in the thought of Karl Barth and John Howard Yoder, showing how thisbiblical concept of power is central to the fundamental theological convictionsof each thinker. Prather offers a scholarly account of the underexploredtheological and ethical import of a major biblical theme and the book addressesquestions and concerns from a wide range of academic and lay theologicalinterest. He brings Barth and Yoder into dialogue here and examines the threecrucial areas: the 'confessional' distinction of church and world; thedemonization of political power; and the intrinsic relation between thepolitical and economic powers. Whileother theologians have rightly identified a 'christocentric' connection betweenthe thought of Barth and Yoder, no attempt has been made to bring them togetherthrough the sustained analysis of a single doctrinal or ethical issue - this bookdoes just that.

Transforming the Elite

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=CRFqDwAAQBAJ&...
When traditionally white public schools in the South became sites of massive resistance in the wake of the Supreme Court's Brown v. Board of Education decision, numerous white students exited the public system altogether, with parents choosing homeschooling or private segregationist academies. But some historically white elite private schools opted to desegregate. The black students that attended these schools courageously navigated institutional and interpersonal racism but ultimately emerged as upwardly mobile leaders. Transforming the Elite tells this story. Focusing on the experiences of the first black students to desegregate Atlanta's well-known The Westminster Schools and national efforts to diversify private schools, Michelle A. Purdy combines social history with policy analysis in a dynamic narrative that expertly re-creates this overlooked history. Through gripping oral histories and rich archival research, this book showcases educational changes for black southerners during the civil rights movement including the political tensions confronted, struggles faced, and school cultures transformed during private school desegregation. This history foreshadows contemporary complexities at the heart of the black community's mixed feelings about charter schools, school choice, and education reform.

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=OM-SDwAAQBAJ&...
Advertising Theory provides detailed and current explorations of key theories in the advertising discipline. The volume gives a working knowledge of the primary theoretical approaches of advertising, offering a comprehensive synthesis of the vast literature in the area. Editors Shelly Rodgers and Esther Thorson have developed this volume as a forum in which to compare, contrast, and evaluate advertising theories in a comprehensive and structured presentation. With new chapters on forms of advertising, theories, and concepts, and an emphasis on the role of new technology, this new edition is uniquely positioned to provide detailed overviews of advertising theory. Utilizing McGuire’s persuasion matrix as the structural model for each chapter, the text offers a wider lens through which to view the phenomenon of advertising as it operates within various environments. Within each area of advertising theory—and across advertising contexts—both traditional and non-traditional approaches are addressed, including electronic word-of-mouth advertising, user-generated advertising, and social media advertising contexts. This new edition includes a balance of theory and practice that will help provide a working knowledge of the primary theoretical approaches and will help readers synthesize the vast literature on advertising with the in-depth understanding of practical case studies and examples within every chapter. It also looks at mobile advertising in a broader context beyond the classroom and explores new areas such as native advertising, political advertising, mobile advertising, and digital video gaming.

Good and Cheap

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=DuVbBAAAQBAJ&...
A perfect and irresistible idea: A cookbook filled with delicious, healthful recipes created for everyone on a tight budget. While studying food policy as a master’s candidate at NYU, Leanne Brown asked a simple yet critical question: How well can a person eat on the $4 a day given by SNAP, the U.S. government’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program informally known as food stamps? The answer is surprisingly well: Broiled Tilapia with Lime, Spicy Pulled Pork, Green Chile and Cheddar Quesadillas, Vegetable Jambalaya, Beet and Chickpea Salad—even desserts like Coconut Chocolate Cookies and Peach Coffee Cake. In addition to creating nutritious recipes that maximize every ingredient and use economical cooking methods, Ms. Brown gives tips on shopping; on creating pantry basics; on mastering certain staples—pizza dough, flour tortillas—and saucy extras that make everything taste better, like spice oil and tzatziki; and how to make fundamentally smart, healthful food choices. The idea for Good and Cheap is already proving itself. The author launched a Kickstarter campaign to self-publish and fund the buy one/give one model. Hundreds of thousands of viewers watched her video and donated $145,000, and national media are paying attention. Even high-profile chefs and food writers have taken note—like Mark Bittman, who retweeted the link to the campaign; Francis Lam, who called it “Terrific!”; and Michael Pollan, who cited it as a “cool kickstarter.” In the same way that TOMS turned inexpensive, stylish shoes into a larger do-good movement, Good and Cheap is poised to become a cookbook that every food lover with a conscience will embrace.

Receiving the Day

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=TR9vDwAAQBAJ&...
Embrace time as a gift--not an obstacle Receiving the Day invites us to open the gift of time, to dwell in the freedom to rest and worship that God intends for us and for all creatures. In this book, Dorothy C. Bass shows how Christian practices for rest and worship continually welcome us into a way of life attuned to the love of God, neighbor, earth, and self. Bass does not aim to provide clear instructions for creating a schedule that solves all our puzzles about how to live in time. Rather, convinced that Christian faith bears great wisdom about time, Bass offers an account of the weekly practice of keeping sabbath, along with other practices by which Christians have sought to live faithfully in time. These practices have been lived by diverse communities of faith across centuries and cultures. Through them, we can learn to dwell more graciously, attentively, and faithfully within the hours and days we have. We can also learn to share the gift of time gladly and gratefully with others, in and for this world God loves.

TALON – (Book 1) Talon I surf. I f*ck. I pretend to smile. Two years ago my life was perfect, until it wasn't. I scattered my wife's ashes then walked away from the Marines. I didn't think I had anything left to lose. I was wrong. The blonde showed up on my doorstep beaten and stabbed. I did what I was trained to do—I stitched her up. I didn't have a clue who she was and I told myself I didn't care. Until they came looking for her. I swore I'd take my last breath before I let anyone else hurt her, except I didn't know she was keeping a deadly secret. Now I had two choices, her life or mine. Marriage and combat taught me the same thing—I was no one's hero. And I was about to prove it. NEIL (Book 2) I didn't know he was a billionaire, or that he was capable of murder. The first time I saw Neil Christensen, I was being dragged onto his boat from the waters off the coast of Key West. The second time I laid eyes on the six-foot-six billionaire, he was walking into my strip club, demanding I quit. The third time I encountered the Viking-sized monster of a man, my life fell apart. Dominant, controlling, and uncompromising in every way—Neil Christensen wasn't a man you met by coincidence. He had a plan. I only hoped I could survive it. ANDRÉ (Book 3) André The Marines trained me to set my sights and wait for the shot. For eight years, I guarded my brothers and defended my country. Now I protect my clients. My personal security firm is the best in the business because I leave nothing to chance… until a dark-haired, hazel-eyed spitfire crosses my path. She and her sexy-as-hell striptease were supposed to be a one-night distraction. But too late I noticed the branding on her back and my blood ran cold. This woman wasn't a distraction—she was a death sentence. Knowing who she was left me no choice. I took her on as my client. But running from her past and hoping we wouldn't get killed wasn't an option. The Marines didn't train me to retreat. They taught me to engage. One shot. One kill. *All of the novels in the Uncompromising Series are full length, standalone books. This series does not have to be read in order. The Uncompromising Series: TALON NEIL ANDRÉ BENNETT CALLAN
