In Dances in the Desert, Gerry du Preez has very little money, but is a master auto mechanic and has a love for farming. Oma Gisela Bieleveldt, an old lady and a shrewd judge of character, gives him the opportunity to trade his soul-breaking city life for a back-breaking opportunity to realize his dreams. Oma's granddaughter, Gretha, is not sure this arrangement can work since their farm is almost bankrupt, but decides to give Gerry the chance he craves. His hard work and knowledge of things mechanical helps save the farm and earns him the respect of the women. The respect changes to love when the two young people are thrown together by the twists of fate on their Kalahari Desert farm. The story is set in the sand dunes of the Kalahari Desert of Namibia during the 1990s, after the cessation of the border war between South Africa and Namibian freedom fighters. Dances in the Desert is storytelling at its finest. About the Author: John D'Alton grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa. He holds a degree in theology and is now a missionary in Tsumeb, northern Namibia. He has worked on a farm in the Kalahari and has been an auto mechanic. "I started a post secondary school for underprivileged students and I teach Bible and English when I am not too busy with administration of the school or the orphanage my wife and I established." He has completed his next novel. Publisher's Website: http: //SBPRA.com/JohnDAlton

Acclaimed writer Charles Shaar Murray's Boogie Man is the authorized and authoritative biography of an extraordinary musician. Murray was given unparalleled access to Hooker, and he lets the man from Clarksdale, Mississippi, tell his own story. "Everything you read on album covers is not true, and every album reads different," he told Murray. Murray helps Hooker set the record straight, disentangling the myths and legends from truths so rock-ribbed that we understand, as if for the first time, why they have provided the source for a lifetime of unforgettable sound. Murray weaves together Hooker's life and music to reveal their indissoluble bonds. Yet Boogie Man is far more than merely an accomplished and brilliant biography of one man; it gives an account of an entire art form. Grounded in a time and place in American culture, the blues are universal, and in the hands of the greatest practitioners its power resides in the miracle of using despair to transcend it. "The preacher's mantle," Murray tells us, "passes to the bluesman." This bluesman traveled a hard road out of the American South, from obscurity to adulation and back-and back again. John Lee Hooker has seen it all and sung it all, and his music is both a living legacy and an American treasure. Here is the book that does him and his music full justice.

The Tutor at Your Side manual addresses the user's needs at each stage of their development. The Startup section gives Camera Setup and Care. The next sections provide continuous guidance through 3 learning phases: 1. The Orientation section describes the control and menu features with illustrated locations and concise descriptions of function, settings, operation and references to detail descriptions. 2. The Operation section gives the user a choice of 4 complete and independent starting points: There are 2 Basic subsections, Quick and Detailed, for Point and Shoot operation and Creative subsections, Quick and Detailed, for the Complete Control mode of operation. Each Detailed subsection includes the corresponding Quick subsection to eliminate looking back. Custom Function setups are given just before the first possible use and usage reminders are given thereafter (Creative Detailed section only). The Effective Use section continues the user guidance beyond the mechanics and the Reference section covers Problems, Playback and Printing. This newly reissued debut book in the Rutgers University Press Classics Imprint is the story of the search for a rocket propellant which could be trusted to take man into space. This search was a hazardous enterprise carried out by rival labs who worked against the known laws of nature, with no guarantee of success or safety. Acclaimed scientist and sci-fi author John Drury Clark writes with irreverent and eyewitness immediacy about the development of the explosive fuels strong enough to negate the relentless restraints of gravity. The resulting volume is as much a memoir as a work of history, sharing a behind-the-scenes view of an enterprise which eventually took men to the moon, missiles to the planets, and satellites to outer space. A classic work in the history of science, and described as “a good book on rocket stuff…that’s a really fun one” by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, readers will want to get their hands on this influential classic, available for the first time in decades.
