Interpretation - Boatbuilding

In response to Philip Reed's book 'Period Ship Modelmaking' I visited Tim Loftus, a traditional wooden boat designer and builder at Underfall Yard, Bristol. I then designed and produced this document based on my visit. The inner pages of the document are printed on graph paper (added digitally for online version) and the document was bound using four poachers knots (boating knots).

The Home Issue: The idea of home is deep and personal. Home might mean a spiritual community, like Lucia Ewing Greenhouse ’80 describes inher memoir about her life in a Christian Science home. Or for Emily Dickinson, says Dickinson scholar Polly Ormsby Longsworth ’51, home meant a house and garden in a small Massachusetts town. Nature became home for Sue Gawler ’73, both professionally and personally, and she discovered it in the greenhouse at Emma Willard. Shanti Nagel ’98 took her rural roots into New York City, turning Hell’s Kitchen into a verdant, home neighborhood.
