The Home Issue: The idea of home is deep and personal. Home might mean a spiritual community, like Lucia Ewing Greenhouse ’80 describes inher memoir about her life in a Christian Science home. Or for Emily Dickinson, says Dickinson scholar Polly Ormsby Longsworth ’51, home meant a house and garden in a small Massachusetts town. Nature became home for Sue Gawler ’73, both professionally and personally, and she discovered it in the greenhouse at Emma Willard. Shanti Nagel ’98 took her rural roots into New York City, turning Hell’s Kitchen into a verdant, home neighborhood.
