"My name is Liv (Not Olivia)... I'm not technically a girl. I'm Transgender. Which is a bit like being a transformer. Only not quite as cool because I probably won't get to save the world one day." Liv knows he was always meant to be a boy, but with his new school's terrible dress code, he can't even wear pants. Only skirts. Operation: Pants Project begins! The only way for Liv to get what he wants is to go after it himself. But to Liv, this isn't just a mission to change the policy—it's a mission to change his life. And that's a pretty big deal.

Science for All Americans

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=LKadiKAUljEC&...
In order to compete in the modern world, any society today must rank education in science, mathematics, and technology as one of its highest priorities. It's a sad but true fact, however, that most Americans are not scientifically literate. International studies of educational performance reveal that U.S. students consistently rank near the bottom in science and mathematics. The latest study of the National Assessment of Educational Progress has found that despite some small gains recently, the average performance of seventeen-year-olds in 1986 remained substantially lower than it had been in 1969. As the world approaches the twenty-first century, American schools-- when it comes to the advancement of scientific knowledge-- seem to be stuck in the Victorian age. In Science for All Americans, F. James Rutherford and Andrew Ahlgren brilliantly tackle this devastating problem. Based on Project 2061, a scientific literacy initiative sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science, this wide-ranging, important volume explores what constitutes scientific literacy in a modern society; the knowledge, skills, and attitudes all students should acquire from their total school experience from kindergarten through high school; and what steps this country must take to begin reforming its system of education in science, mathematics, and technology. Science for All Americans describes the scientifically literate person as one who knows that science, mathematics, and technology are interdependent enterprises with strengths and limitations; who understands key concepts and principles of science; who recognizes both the diversity and unity of the natural world; and who uses scientific knowledge and scientific ways of thinking for personal and social purposes. Its recommendations for educational reform downplay traditional subject categories and instead highlight the connections between them. It also emphasizes ideas and thinking skills over the memorization of specialized vocabulary. For instance, basic scientific literacy means knowing that the chief function of living cells is assembling protein molecules according to the instructions coded in DNA molecules, but does not mean necessarily knowing the terms "ribosome" or "deoxyribonucleic acid." Science, mathematics, and technology will be at the center of the radical changes in the nature of human existence that will occur during the next life span; therefore, preparing today's children for tomorrow's world must entail a solid education in these areas. Science for All Americans will help pave the way for the necessary reforms in America's schools.

Federal Tax Practice and Procedure

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=N6bHHnYu5k4C&...
Written by a team of eight tax practitioners and law professors, Federal Tax Practice and Procedure is the ideal guidebook for understanding how disputes with the IRS arise and are resolved. Its 18 chapters are divided into four parts: (1) The Basics: Chapters examine the reform of the IRS during the 1990's and its current structure and organization. Also covered: income tax withholding, calculating estimated taxes, making tax payments, preparing returns and making elections. (2) Examination of the Tax Return and Assessment of a Deficiency: Chapters explore IRS examination of tax returns and the assessment of tax deficiencies, reaching settlements with the IRS, statutes of limitation on assessment, practicing before the IRS, and obtaining IRS guidance. (3) Remedies Available to the Taxpayer: Chapters on Tax Court litigation, refunds and appeals. (4) IRS Tools for Obtaining Unpaid Taxes and Penalizing Taxpayers: Chapters cover collection of taxes, liens and levies, interest, the fraud penalty, civil penalties other than fraud, and criminal penalties and procedure. The treatise is filled with hypothetical examples where our authors show you how to perform difficult tax calculations and how to apply tax rules and principles in everyday practice. The authors have also included scores of tax planning tips, commentaries and observations on the law, and caveats for the cautious practitioner. Federal Tax Practice and Procedure is the perfect companion to Matthew Bender’s two-volume treatise, Tax Controversies -- Audits, Investigations and Trials, which provides in-depth coverage of tax fraud, both civil and criminal. Also includes subject matter index, and tables of Internal Revenue Code sections, Treasury Regulations and IRS rulings and pronouncements.

Cybersecurity and Cyberwar

https://play.google.com/store/books/details?id=B88ZAgAAQBAJ&...
A generation ago, "cyberspace" was just a term from science fiction, used to describe the nascent network of computers linking a few university labs. Today, our entire modern way of life, from communication to commerce to conflict, fundamentally depends on the Internet. And the cybersecurity issues that result challenge literally everyone: politicians wrestling with everything from cybercrime to online freedom; generals protecting the nation from new forms of attack, while planning new cyberwars; business executives defending firms from once unimaginable threats, and looking to make money off of them; lawyers and ethicists building new frameworks for right and wrong. Most of all, cybersecurity issues affect us as individuals. We face new questions in everything from our rights and responsibilities as citizens of both the online and real world to simply how to protect ourselves and our families from a new type of danger. And yet, there is perhaps no issue that has grown so important, so quickly, and that touches so many, that remains so poorly understood. In Cybersecurity and CyberWar: What Everyone Needs to Know®, New York Times best-selling author P. W. Singer and noted cyber expert Allan Friedman team up to provide the kind of easy-to-read, yet deeply informative resource book that has been missing on this crucial issue of 21st century life. Written in a lively, accessible style, filled with engaging stories and illustrative anecdotes, the book is structured around the key question areas of cyberspace and its security: how it all works, why it all matters, and what can we do? Along the way, they take readers on a tour of the important (and entertaining) issues and characters of cybersecurity, from the "Anonymous" hacker group and the Stuxnet computer virus to the new cyber units of the Chinese and U.S. militaries. Cybersecurity and CyberWar: What Everyone Needs to Know® is the definitive account on the subject for us all, which comes not a moment too soon. No He Can't

books.google.com/books?id=ijW_0XK9IIIC&dq=9-12+projec...
Nationally syndicated radio talk show host and columnist Kevin McCullough  tackles the thorny issue of why the audacity of hope is not found in the current path that President Barack Obama has laid. As the first pundit in the world to predict that President Barack Obama would become president of the United States (verified on-air by Rush Limbaugh), Kevin McCullough was not surprised when Mr. Obama was elected to that office. Yet even McCullough admits he's surprised by President Obama's actions since the election. Surprised by the overt falsehoods already carried out by this administration. Surprised by our country's sudden deficit of clarity and common sense. Surprised by a blatant lack of accountability. In No He Can't, McCullough stands as the loyal but outraged loyal opposition to the current state of affairs.
