Catacombs

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/catacombs-4...
A book of poetry is not often easy to create. Thoughts fly by like startled birds in flight and I with my hands out feel only a brisk tickle of a feathered muse. Perhaps it's easier for some with quicker grasps than mine. For I am sloth slow and cannot crisply snap the fly's back in mid air. It is left for the young to beat the firing gun. I hang behind like a horse with a shattered shoe. These words are mine. I own them and carry them medal proud yet they are heavy with a yoke of responsibility. You can own a fancy car, perhaps a new house or you could own all the gold in faraway lands, but to own your words is a price higher than all the frivolous belongings of humankind. You see words really are the arrows and we must give forethought to where we aim.

I Am Not a Color

This small book or essay, or whatever you prefer to name it is basically a Hail Mary for American progressive thinkers and voters. Hopefully readers will see it for what it is, a work in irony, cynicism, with a little thought provocation thrown in as a broth for this small pot of soup.I don't mean to make this a cliché, but the United States is at a crossroads, a political, social, and spiritual crossroads. We have groups of self proclaimed Christians who couldn't care less about the poor, needy, and homeless.

Rivets: Poetry for What's Left

https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/rivets-poetry-for-wh...
Rivets" is a compilation of thoughts. Poetry, not in the rhyming, chiming, climbing sense…yet poetry it must be. Prose lined up to look like poetry is perhaps the best description. Any way you want to see it is what it will be for you. It is the writer's view of the world whether right or wrong. It is a book of hope, hopelessness, love, love lost, morality, and immorality. It's all these things and much more. It is a love/hate story compiled from twenty five years of being, watching, waiting, learning, and yearning. It is a story of one man's view of a world gone sour. Describing a book of poetry is akin to describing the atmosphere on Jupiter. Poetry is like an unfinished song which begs to be finished by the reader. After reading Rivets you may have learned something or you may have learned that what you see isn't always as clear as you see it.

Black Dog Dance

https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/black-dog-dance...
Black Dog Dance is a small compilation of short stories, brief essays, and poetry. The author questions the world's dance with war, moral decay, and the decimated mind set of politicians, warriors, and zealots. It is a proposition defining the morality of war, starvation, and suicide. Perhaps nihilistic in nature Black Dog Dance demands attention by the world of killers and world leaders, and the world of the oppressed. Are we all victims of something greater than us? The author insists that we are.

Lordes Crossing

The river poured itself into another as I sat on my raggedy porch chair and watched the sun creep its way into shadows. This is my third porch chair in as many years. I call it a porch, but really it's just a salvaged piece of 5/8 inch plywood settling itself below the back door of my trailer, just another jewel embedded in the riverbank. My back porch floated to my little cove about two months ago and the natural law of river residents is finders' keepers. My trailer is one of those Holly Hill models from 1949. The tires are flat and I don't recall when they weren't flat. Char and I live in the second trailer of three. When I look out my window I see a Holly Hill wagon train obtusely placed just off the flood zone of the Wabash River. My neighbors are mirrors of me, James Wilter on the east and Bunky Hall on the west. I've known Bunky since high school and James I don't know at all. I say I don't know him, but I do. I just haven't known him for very long, maybe two years. Two years on the river is only a pause. Char sniffs at the heavy river air, perks his ears, and curls deeper within his folds of fur. He is a contortionist like most cats. His predecessor, Greaser, used to sleep upside down on a nearby tree stump, rotted now, with one eye on the local squirrels and one eye closed, engaged in some sort of cat dream. Bunky has an old black Labrador, Earl. Has to be fourteen-years-old, that dog. James says he "ain't got no use for a shitting mutt." I say James ain't n got use for anything except the Jerry Springer Show. Bunky swears James gets off on watchin' those crazy women slug each other in the boobs. Me, I just think James likes a good fight of any kind. Like most folks, you probably want to know my story. Thing is, it's not a crock of shit. It's the godawful truth and it all began forty-seven years ago when my wife Ruthie gave birth to our son Christian. Ironic that his name was Christian, because what I'm about to tell you has nothing Christian in it. It scares

Black Popular Music in Britain Since 1945

https://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/black-popular-music-...
Black Popular Music in Britain Since 1945 provides the first broad scholarly discussion of this music since 1990. The book critically examines key moments in the history of black British popular music from 1940s jazz to 1970s soul and reggae, 1990s Jungle and the sounds of Dubstep and Grime that have echoed through the 2000s. While the book offers a history it also discusses the ways black musics in Britain have intersected with the politics of race and class, multiculturalism, gender and sexuality, and debates about media and technology. Contributors examine the impact of the local, the ways that black music in Birmingham, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester and London evolved differently and how black popular music in Britain has always developed in complex interaction with the dominant British popular music tradition. This tradition has its own histories located in folk music, music hall and a constant engagement, since the nineteenth century, with American popular music, itself a dynamic mixing of African-American, Latin American and other musics. The ideas that run through various chapters form connecting narratives that challenge dominant understandings of black popular music in Britain and will be essential reading for those interested in Popular Music Studies, Black British Studies and Cultural Studies.
