Bill O'Reilly & Martin Dugard's Killing Reagan The Violent Assault That Changed a Presidency Summary

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/bill-o-reilly-martin-dugard...
This is a Summary of Bill O'Reilly & Martin Dugard's Killing Reagan The Violent Assault That Changed a PresidencyFrom the bestselling team of Bill O'Reilly and Martin Dugard comes Killing Reagan, a page-turning epic account of the career of President Ronald Reagan that tells the vivid story of his rise to power - and the forces of evil that conspired to bring him down. Just two months into his presidency, Ronald Reagan lay near death after a gunman's bullet came within inches of his heart. His recovery was nothing short of remarkable - or so it seemed. But Reagan was grievously injured, forcing him to encounter a challenge that few men ever face. Could he silently overcome his traumatic experience while at the same time carrying out the duties of the most powerful man in the world?Told in the same riveting fashion as Killing Lincoln, Killing Kennedy, Killing Jesus, and Killing Patton, Killing Reagan reaches back to the golden days of Hollywood, where Reagan found both fame and heartbreak, up through the years in the California governor's mansion, and finally to the White House, where he presided over boom years and the fall of the Iron Curtain. But it was John Hinckley Jr.'s attack on him that precipitated President Reagan's most heroic actions. In Killing Reagan, O'Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the scenes, creating an unforgettable portrait of a great man operating in violent times. The Social Media Reader

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-social-media-reader...
With the rise of web 2.0 and social media platforms taking over vast tracts of territory on the internet, the media landscape has shifted drastically in the past 20 years, transforming previously stable relationships between media creators and consumers. The Social Media Reader is the first collection to address the collective transformation with pieces on social media, peer production, copyright politics, and other aspects of contemporary internet culture from all the major thinkers in the field. Culling a broad range and incorporating different styles of scholarship from foundational pieces and published articles to unpublished pieces, journalistic accounts, personal narratives from blogs, and whitepapers, The Social Media Reader promises to be an essential text, with contributions from Lawrence Lessig, Henry Jenkins, Clay Shirky, Tim O'Reilly, Chris Anderson, Yochai Benkler, danah boyd, and Fred von Loehmann, to name a few. It covers a wide-ranging topical terrain, much like the internet itself, with particular emphasis on collaboration and sharing, the politics of social media and social networking, Free Culture and copyright politics, and labor and ownership. Theorizing new models of collaboration, identity, commerce, copyright, ownership, and labor, these essays outline possibilities for cultural democracy that arise when the formerly passive audience becomes active cultural creators, while warning of the dystopian potential of new forms of surveillance and control.

WTF?

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/wtf-4...
WTF? can be an expression of amazement or an expression of dismay. In today's economy, we have far too much dismay along with our amazement, and technology bears some of the blame. In this combination of memoir, business strategy guide, and call to action, Tim O'Reilly, Silicon Valley's leading intellectual and the founder of O'Reilly Media, explores the upside and the potential downsides of today's WTF? technologies. What is the future when an increasing number of jobs can be performed by intelligent machines instead of people, or done only by people in partnership with those machines? What happens to our consumer based societies-to workers and to the companies that depend on their purchasing power? Is income inequality and unemployment an inevitable consequence of technological advancement, or are there paths to a better future? What will happen to business when technology-enabled networks and marketplaces are better at deploying talent than traditional companies? How should companies organize themselves to take advantage of these new tools? What's the future of education when on-demand learning outperforms traditional institutions? How can individuals continue to adapt and retrain? Will the fundamental social safety nets of the developed world survive the transition, and if not, what will replace them? O'Reilly is "the man who can really can make a whole industry happen," according to Eric Schmidt, Executive Chairman of Alphabet (Google.) His genius over the past four decades has been to identify and to help shape our response to emerging technologies with world shaking potential-the World Wide Web, Open Source Software, Web 2.0, Open Government data, the Maker Movement, Big Data, and now AI. O'Reilly shares the techniques he's used at O'Reilly Media to make sense of and predict past innovation waves and applies those same techniques to provide a framework for thinking about how today's world-spanning platforms and networks, on-demand services, and artificial in

Who's Looking Out for You?

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/who-s-looking-out-for-you...
From the mega-bestselling author of The O'Reilly Factor and The No Spin Zone, a no-holds-barred exposé of the people and institutions who are letting Americans down - and what we should do about it. Bill O'Reilly is mad as hell - and he's not going to let you take it anymore. In his most powerful and personal book yet, this media powerhouse and unstoppable truth-teller takes on those individuals and institutions in American life who are failing in their duties - big-time. In his inimitable style, mixing wit, pugnacity, and plain common sense, O'Reilly kicks butt and takes (and also names) names - from crooked corporate weasels to venal politicians to lazy and/or politically correct bureaucrats to sexually predatory priests and the Church hierarchy that protects them to a media establishment rife with political bias and economically hooked on violence and smut. At the same time that he calls the famous and powerful to account, he dares to get personal, questioning just how much our closest friends, families, and lovers do look out for us, and delivering a powerful message about personal responsibility and self-reliance in an uncertain world. He forces us to ask just how much genuine altruism is left in a society that thrives on self-indulgence and ruthless competition. Who's Looking Out for You? is a book that boldly confronts our worst fears and biggest problems in a post-9/11, post-corporate-meltdown world. Its sage, candid advice on regaining control and trust in these troubled times will resonate with the millions of readers and viewers who have come to believe in Bill O'Reilly as the man who speaks for them.

The No Spin Zone

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/the-no-spin-zone...
On the heels of his runaway New York Times bestseller, The O'Reilly Factor, Bill O'Reilly delivers another strong dose of no-holds-barred advice and the unvarnished truth for America. Bill O'Reilly is even madder today than when he wrote his last book The O'Reilly Factor-and his fans love him even more. He's mad because things have gone from bad to worse, in politics, in Hollywood, in every social stratum of the nation. True to its title, The No-Spin Zone cuts through all the rhetoric that some of O'Reilly's most infamous guests have spewed to expose what's really on their minds, while sharing plenty of his own emphatic counterpoints along the way. Shining a searing spotlight on public figures from President George W. Bush and Senator Hillary Clinton to the Reverend Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and his former CBS News colleague Dan Rather, The No-Spin Zone is laced with the kind of straight-shooting commentary that has made O'Reilly the voice of middle America's disenfranchised. Examining sex and violence in the media and the tarnished legacy of the Clintons with the same feistiness as the death penalty (which he opposes) and timid national news organizations that roll over for the powerful, Bill O'Reillydelivers not only his opinions, but the documented attitudes of the country's movers and shakers as well. It demonstrates just why O'Reilly has become the most successful, the most controversial, the most beloved (by some), and the most disliked (by others) figure in television news today and a culture hero to tens of millions of everyday Americans. And that's fact, not spin. From the Hardcover edition.

Culture Warrior

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/culture-warrior...
With three straight #1 bestsellers and more than 4 million copies of his books in print, the most powerful traditional force in the American media now takes off his gloves in the ongoing struggle for America's heart and soul. Bill O'Reilly is the very embodiment of the idea of a Culture Warrior-and in this book he lives up to the title brilliantly, with all the brashness and forthrightness at his command. He sees that America is in the midst of a fierce culture war between those who embrace traditional values and those who want to change America into a "secular-progressive" country. This is a conflict that differs in many ways from the usual liberal/conservative divide, but it is no less heated, and the stakes are even higher. In Culture Warrior, Bill O'Reilly defines this war and analyzes the competing philosophies of the traditionalist and secular-progressive camps. He examines why the nation's motto "E Pluribus Unum" ("From Many, One") might change to "What About Me?"; dissects the forces driving the secular-progressive agenda in the media and behind the scenes, including George Soros, George Lakoff, and the ACLU; and dives into matters of race, education, and the war on terror. He also shows how the culture war has played out in such high-profile instances as The Passion of the Christ, Fahrenheit 9/11, the abuse epidemic (child and otherwise), and the embattled place of religion in public life-with special emphasis on the war against Christmas. Whatever controversies are roiling the nation, he fearlessly confronts them-and no one will be in the dark about which side he's on. Culture Warrior showcases Bill O'Reilly at his most eloquent and impassioned. He is an unrelenting fighter for the soul of America, and in this book he fights the good fight for the traditional values that have served this country so well for so long.

Women and Sports in the United States

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/women-and-sports-in-the-uni...
A spectacular transformation in women's sports has occurred over the past century in colleges, high schools, and recreational leagues across the nation. Gradual changes during the late 1950s and 1960s within the fields of women's physical education and amateur sport provided the initial energy for this transformation. But it took the rebirth of a grassroots feminist movement in the late 1960s and 1970s to catalyze the radical changes in women's athletic opportunities and attitudes toward female athletes. The assimilation of feminist principles into the broader popular culture solidified the belief that sport plays a positive role in the lives of girls and women. Political activists for women's rights codified this attitude with the passage of Title IX of the 1972 Federal Education Amendments, a law banning gender discrimination in educational settings, thus guaranteeing women's legal right to an equitable share of athletic opportunities and resources. Though the sea change in American women's sports is evident in schools, the media, and local playing fields, scholars are still in the early stages of fully examining the causes and impacts of this historic change. Women and Sports in the United States brings together scholarly articles, journalism, political and legal documents, and first-person accounts that collectively explore women's sports in America, with emphasis on the post-Title IX era. This book was published with the generous support of the Center for the Study of Sport in Society at Northeastern University.

Truth and Consequences

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/truth-and-consequences-3...
Short, sharp, and oftentimes shocking, Keith Olbermann's "Special Comments" have made his nightly MSNBC program, Countdown with Keith Olbermann, must-see viewing-and the fastest-growing news show on cable TV. In these segments, Olbermann calls out the perpetrators of mismanagement, brutality, cronyism, and the appalling lack of accountability at the highest levels of the Bush administration. In so doing, Olbermann goes where most of the mainstream media fear to tread-and his rapidly expanding audience eagerly follows. In Truth and Consequences, Olbermann collects the best of his Special Comments, presented here with additional observations and other new material. Whether taking to task the likes of Vice President Dick Cheney and (the thankfully former) Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, who compare critics of the Iraq War to Nazi appeasers, or giving his impassioned perspective on why torture is un-American and what it really means to support our troops, or grilling timid lawmakers who fail to rein in presidential overreach and abuses of executive power, Olbermann's devastatingly blunt (and at times wickedly funny) commentary cuts to the core of the duplicity and cynicism of a government that has lost the ability to distinguish between leading our great nation and ruling it. Naturally, Keith Olbermann's candor and razor-sharp polemic have earned him many detractors and enemies. His antagonists in the media, such as Bill O'Reilly, have mocked him and accused him of rank intolerance. Yes, Keith Olbermann is intolerant-of hypocrisy, demagoguery, fear-mongering, and especially the equation of dissent with treason. In Truth and Consequences, he fights to reclaim for himself and all Americans the dignity of speaking one's mind and acting on one's conscience. Praise for Keith Olbermann"A truth-telling, Bush-bashing accidental liberal hero."-New York"The most honest man in news. Olbermann clearly relishes his feuds and doesn't seem to worry much about sparking new ones

More Humor!

Greetings dear readers: As you have probably gathered, this is the second anthology of humorous poetry for the facebook group, 'I am Poetry'. At first, a little information on our poetry group. This group, 'I am Poetry', was created in October 2013. The very first member being Bernard Harold Curgenven, who will be referred to in this book, as B.H.Curgenven, for obvious reasons. The second member was Ronnie van de Heever. We have since flourished, and have almost ten thousand members at present. We have some of the most famous writers in the world, and continue to grow on a daily bases. Now, about the book content: The first poems are from Bernard Harold Curgenven. The poem 'Are You an authentic Author', looks at an age old problem of authenticity and copyright infringement. We are faced with this dilemma on a daily bases. With the availability of the media, such as the internet, our work is seen in every part of the world. Therefore people copy, and often steal from original writers, claiming all unpublished work as their own. Then we have so called 'ghost writers'. Some writers have became famous, by purchasing work from others. In most parts of the world this may not be illegal, however is it moral? The unknown writer could remain unknown for all time to come. We need to have a balance between fame and finance. The poem 'His Fear of A Lady', takes a brief look at marriage, though this is no usual marriage, i assure you. The spouses live apart in fear. Imagine an obese wife, or a vampire spouse, who will happily bite you in your sleep! Real Life can be so uncomfortable, and we only strive for better, be it only in a dream. Take a look at the ambition of Francine Messin, in her poem 'Real Life.' How does the thoughts of a hypochondriac, turn one into an insomniac? This be told in Susan O'Reilly's poem, I'm Sick. Imagine opening and shutting the gate from hell all day long. Take a look at this poem by famous author of horror, Patrick Royal. Here is a horror poem, wit
