Man is essentially spiritual, therefore, a very important place in his life takes faith. Since ancient time people worshiped the forces of nature, plants and animals around him, believing that through them the higher power can have an impact on his life. For example, the ancient Slavs created a whole Pantheon of gods, from the Creator God Svarog and ending with polonoreste and demonic creatures inhabiting the forests, rivers, lakes, fields. All nature, all its manifestations, would cause an ignorant person a sense of mystical fear and dependence on a higher power. But do not think that the faith of the ancient man was worthless, and blind worship of imaginary beings. I think the most important thing in Slavic paganism is the human desire for something higher, more pure and spiritual than his everyday life, consisting of the need to maintain physical existence. After all, it is faith in a higher power inspired the man on the first steps in the various arts. So, wanting to succeed in hunting, early man created the first cave paintings, wanting to influence the forces of nature, creating songs and dances. Magic to the word and motion makes a person strive to develop his aesthetic perception.

NATIONAL BOOK AWARD FINALISTSHORT-LISTED FOR THE MAN BOOKER PRIZEBrace yourself for the most astonishing, challenging, upsetting, and profoundly moving book in many a season. An epic about love and friendship in the twenty-first century that goes into some of the darkest places fiction has ever traveled and yet somehow improbably breaks through into the light. Truly an amazement—and a great gift for its readers. When four classmates from a small Massachusetts college move to New York to make their way, they're broke, adrift, and buoyed only by their friendship and ambition. There is kind, handsome Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, a quick-witted, sometimes cruel Brooklyn-born painter seeking entry to the art world; Malcolm, a frustrated architect at a prominent firm; and withdrawn, brilliant, enigmatic Jude, who serves as their center of gravity. Over the decades, their relationships deepen and darken, tinged by addiction, success, and pride. Yet their greatest challenge, each comes to realize, is Jude himself, by midlife a terrifyingly talented litigator yet an increasingly broken man, his mind and body scarred by an unspeakable childhood, and haunted by what he fears is a degree of trauma that he’ll not only be unable to overcome—but that will define his life forever. In rich and resplendent prose, Yanagihara has fashioned a tragic and transcendent hymn to brotherly love, a masterful depiction of heartbreak, and a dark examination of the tyranny of memory and the limits of human endurance. From the Hardcover edition.

The appropriate expression for our subject is the "Philosophy of Art,"or, more precisely, the "Philosophy of Fine Arts." By this expression wewish to exclude the beauty of nature. In common life we are in the habitof speaking of beautiful color, a beautiful sky, a beautiful river, beautiful flowers, beautiful animals, and beautiful human beings. Butquite aside from the question, which we wish not to discuss here, howfar beauty may be predicated of such objects, or how far natural beautymay be placed side by side with artistic beauty, we must begin bymaintaining that artistic beauty is higher than the beauty of nature. For the beauty of art is beauty born--and born again--of the spirit. Andas spirit and its products stand higher than nature and its phenomena,by so much the beauty that resides in art is superior to the beauty ofnature.
