Heat Transfer

The continuing trend toward miniaturization and high power density electronics results in a growing interdependency between different fields of engineering. In particular, thermal management has become essential to the design and manufacturing of most electronic systems. Heat Transfer: Thermal Management of Electronics details how engineers can use intelligent thermal design to prevent heat-related failures, increase the life expectancy of the system, and reduce emitted noise, energy consumption, cost, and time to market. Appropriate thermal management can also create a significant market differentiation, compared to similar systems. Since there are more design flexibilities in the earlier stages of product design, it would be productive to keep the thermal design in mind as early as the concept and feasibility phase. The author first provides the basic knowledge necessary to understand and solve simple electronic cooling problems. He then delves into more detail about heat transfer fundamentals to give the reader a deeper understanding of the physics of heat transfer. Next, he describes experimental and numerical techniques and tools that are used in a typical thermal design process. The book concludes with a chapter on some advanced cooling methods. With its comprehensive coverage of thermal design, this book can help all engineers to develop the necessary expertise in thermal management of electronics and move a step closer to being a multidisciplinary engineer.

The book explores what it is like to be an adolescent with AS through interviews with Teodor, a 'psychologically unusual' twelve-year-old. In this case study, Vuletic and Ferrari combine an autobiographical account with perspectives from other people who know Teodor, while simultaneously integrating psychiatric and psychological research on autism.

Technology Transfer

This book identifies, analyses and systematically discusses the major factors responsible for the effective transfer of new technology. Professor Cohen maintains that the necessary conditions for a successful transfer and for knowledge flow are complex, involving engineering issues as well as economic, managerial, social and political factors. He develops an essential methodology for rigorous modeling which takes account of these complex quantitative and qualitative factors. Providing a practical, step-by-step and holistic model to effectively manage technology transfer, this book will enable governments and organizations to logically make strategic assessments of the outcome of the technologies chosen, as also to determine the appropriateness and sustainability of these technologies.

Transfer Factor: Basic Properties and Clinical Applications covers papers about transfer factor. The book presents papers on the in vitro studies of transfer factor; the characterization of transfer factor; and the animal models of transfer factor. The text also includes articles on the use of transfer factor in infectious and neoplastic diseases and transfer factor therapy. Examples of papers on transfer factor therapy include the role of transfer factor in the treatment of lymphoma cutis in Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome, transfer factor immunotherapy of rheumatoid arthritis, and transfer factor therapy in a patient with an isolated T-cell deficiency. Immunologists, pathologists, oncologists, microbiologists and people involved in the study of infectious diseases will find the book invaluable.

Technology Transfer

This study focuses on technology transfer in the steel mini-mill industry. It identifies two central issues: how capacity is built and how demand is sustained, developing a three-dimensional perspective to bring into sharp focus the desirability and necessity of technology transfer. The three-dimensional perspective focuses on the changes in the marketplace for flat steel sheets, the responsiveness and sensitivity to these market changes, and applying the best available technology to obtain a high quality product. Prior to this study, technology transfer has been examined in a bivariate relationship, namely, how technology transfer contributed to the development process in developing countries and Newly Industrialized Countries (NICs). The framework formulated in this study showed that Japan was lagging behind all the steel-producing countries because, like the NICs, it imported the physical and organizational technologies that fostered its prosperity. Based on primary and secondary research, this study revealed that high levels of operational efficiency and sophisticated product quality were achieved through continuous improvement culminating in Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) consisting of Real Time Process Control. On the other hand, the research also revealed that China based the improvement of its steel industry on self-reliance combined with judicious selection of foreign collaboration. The theoretical underpinnings of the crucial issues in this study led to the development of an interactive model of technology transfer based upon stock and flow variables.

Manhattan Transfer

www.ebooks.com/cj.asp?IID=1328309&cjsku=1328309...
Considered by many to be John Dos Passos's greatest work, Manhattan Transfer is an "expressionistic picture of New York" (New York Times) in the 1920s that reveals the lives of wealthy power brokers and struggling immigrants alike. From Fourteenth Street to the Bowery, Delmonico's to the underbelly of the city waterfront, Dos Passos chronicles the lives of characters struggling to become a part of modernity before they are destroyed by it. More than seventy-five years after its first publication, Manhattan Transfer still stands as "a novel of the very first importance" (Sinclair Lewis). It is a masterpeice of modern fiction and a lasting tribute to the dual-edged nature of the American dream.
