There is elements of language that allow us to better understand the world. Abstractions in language help us classify ideas into groups so that we may generalize or specify parts within a label. For instance a car is made up of many parts, such as the engine, the wheels, the body, etc. We call it a car instead of of "an engine driving the wheels with a body attached to carry passengers", to make it easier for us not only to transfer the though within our mind, but also to others. Also, by calling it a car, we have differentiated the object from a train or a bike, both being other modes of transportation. Abstractions are part of our mental girds that help us by chopping reality into fragments so that we may organize it and put it into our grasp of understanding. Something such as the temperature cannot be measured because it is infinitely variable. It is just our enviroment reduced to numbers so that we can conceive it in our minds. Again, our world is divided into pieces so the human mind can understand it bit buy bit. From seeing a car to measuring the temperature, language offers an explanation to our experience and it is a powerful tool to help us think.

In 2007, four years before I retired, I began again to work on publishing my book A GUIDE TO ENGLISH GRAMMAR, congugation of commonly used verbs. I would work on my book one of my two days off from work. After I retired I would work up to eight hours a day, six days a week. When I was sure my material was in the order to be published, I searched for a publisher until I found Xlibris. Xlibris seemed to be the perfect publisher. Because I am now writing my author dedication page, means that I have continued to trust Xlibris. I want to thank everyone at Xlibris who has worked on my book for all of their patience and diligent work on my books.

If is called also a conjunction. His is not true it is always a verb, being only a contracted form of give. The fact is the same with though; it is a verb, but defective. To the syntax, I have added several new rules and illustrations; the British Grammars, in this particular, being very defective. In deed, so defective and erroneous are the British Grammars, and the compilations in the United States, formed on their principles, that without some further helps, the construction of many established and legitimate phrases and sentences in our language, cannot be explained.

Although the main purpose of this book is for the student to learn English grammar skills, the book also touches on life in Ghana, West Africa. It tells the student about the daily life of Ghanaians living a meager, yet productive life. In Ghana, we have qualified doctors and nurses working in hospitals; we have both male and female students in the medical field studying to be doctors, some of whom are now qualified and are working in the United States. We also have students in law, again, both men and women studying to be lawyers. A good many have graduated and are working abroad. The African-American student will benefit a great deal from this book in that the book encourages students to read about our ancestors. This connection to the past can enable students to see life differently and, perhaps, make a better life for themselves.

Who Said English Grammar Was Boring?

https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/who-said-english-grammar-wa...
The world of education is full of grammar books. For most teachers and students of foreign languages, grammar books are generally dry and dusty and only to be consulted on a reference basis. However, Who Said English Grammar Was Boring is not your conventional grammar book. Its core dynamic is based upon a conversation between the author and an English language instructor colleague. Apart from being an exposition of English grammar, the book also incorporates advice on teaching methodology and practice exercises for students. Apart from focusing on the four key areas of language learningreading, writing, listening, and speakingthe book introduces another concept in the form of a practicum, which asks the students to take turns in giving a lesson to their classmates on what they have learned. It is hoped that this book will serve to take the monotony out of grammar learning.
